Sister Williams and Sister Gramse taught us how to do little girls hair. Sister Williams taught us how to do a messy bun check out this video on You Tube. She gave us a great tip of using a toothbrush (a clean one of course) on little girls hair instead of a comb or a brush.
Sister Gramse taught us how to do a bow bun that is so cute. Go here for the tutorial.
We had such a great night, thanks to all those who contributed to our mini classes. We learned some great things. Here's a quick recap.
Sister Kearl, & Sister Mitchell taught us how to wear scarves now that cold weather is approaching. We learned how to be warm and fashionable this fall & winter. You can go here to see 40 ways to tie scarves, it will give you a video tutorial for a lot of different types of scarves and creative ways to tie them.
Sister Gambles talked to us about Family Scripture Study. We talked a lot about finding the time that works for your family (morning, dinnertime, evening). We also talked about apps that you can use to help with scripture study.
-Chapter Tap- will let you pick a starting and ending date and will tell you how many chapters you need to read each day in order to reach your goal. $1.99
-Gospel Library- will let you read you scriptures on your phone. You can use it to listen to scriptures in the car if you have the mp3 hook up. (free)
-What are some other apps you have found helpful with scripture study?
Sister Selander taught us some creative ways to wrap and give gifts. You can pin some of the ideas off of her Gift Ideas pinterest board. Go here, to see some of them (you will probably have to be a member of pinterest).
1. Everyone brings an item (or more than one), usually something they have made (i.e. crafts, treats, or an offer of service) for others to bid on.
2.Upon arrival, you will fill out a service survey. This survey will ask you questions such as How many loads of laundry you did this week, How often you read your scriptures, or If you have read to a child this week. For each answer there is a point value. (For example: If I did 5 loads of wash this week I might get 25 points.)
3. The points earned are used to bid on the items others brought. We have some amazing items sisters have signed up to donate. Baked goods, blankets, cute crafts, a photo session, and tons of other things! If you haven't ever been to a service auctions, you are in for a treat tonight! Please join us for a fun-filled night of bidding and bonding! Hope to see you all there!
Come with us and take a tour of the Humanitarian Center and see how the process works from start to finish. Our tour starts at 7:30 p.m. so we will leave the church in carpools at 7 pm. This is a great opportunity to learn about some of the ways the church helps those in need around the world. Also, find out ways you can contribute to the humanitarian center if you are interested. Don't miss out on an uplifting night!
There will be NO NURSERY provided since we will not be meeting in the building.
We have to thank everyone that shared their talents and ideas with us tonight. Here are a few we want to share with you.
Sister Higley shared some fun and inexpensive ideas for teacher gifts. She bought all of the items at the dollar store. Isn't the frame cute? I love how she covered it with crayons. She also made cute magnet boards using burner covers, paper, mod podge, and ribbon, I would have never thought of doing that! The magnets were made using the clear rocks with paper on the back. The last idea used a pack of Rolos, with paper wrapped around it and a Hersey's Kiss glued on the bottom to make a pencil. Teachers would love these gifts and you wouldn't break the bank telling them thanks for all they do!
Sister Stoker shared some great ideas for Family Home Evening. She started out by saying that there is no excuse! We need to make it a priority each Monday night! What a great time to teach our children of the important truths of the gospel.

Sister Nesbitt made this poster filled with great thoughts and ideas you could give to the sisters you visit teach. We will have it hanging up during Relief Society so you can refer to it. We had time to discuss some commonly asked questions about visitng teaching go here to see some of the answers. We also encouraged all of the sisters to read Chapter 7 in Daughters in My Kingdom...it is a beautiful chapter on visiting teaching and its purposes.
"Sister Elaine L. Jack, the twelfth Relief Society general president, taught: "In visiting teaching we reach out to each other. Hands often speak as voices can't. A warm embrace conveys volumes. A laugh together unites us. A moment of sharing refreshes our souls. We cannot always lift the burden of one who is troubled, but we can lift her so she can bear it well." (pg. 119)
We encourage all of you to get to know each of your sisters so you can be there to celebrate the good times with her and if necessary help her bear the hard times as well.
Sister Williams, Sister Heitz, and Sister Powell shared some fun birthday party ideas. I'm thinking party planning is in each of their futures :) Here were some of their suggestions:

Have you been wondering what to do with your kids this summer? Sister Ashby shared some fun ideas that keep her kids busy and create fun memories. She has her kids write down summer activity ideas and put them in a jar, or if they are bored they choose an activity from the book above. Studio 5 had a segment on summer activities go here, to check it out. They have a chart with 100 summer activities you can do with your kids. Here are some other resources that Sister Ashby shared with us:
Welcome back to High School! We had a great time reminiscing about the good ole' days! We ate from the school cafeteria which featured: sloppy joes, chips, jello, veggies, milk, and yummy cake! We listened to a fun mix of music from the 60's to the present and played a fun game of Generation Bingo!
The good sports who tried out our photo booth!
It was fun to see how people dressed up from their decade of high school. We also looked at pictures and year books. It was lots of fun! Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success!
Come and join us for a flashback to high school, with music, games, and dinner (you'll swear you were back at your school cafeteria)! Still have something in your closet that your wore in high school? You could TOTALLY wear it that night (but it isn't required)! Bring your yearbook and any photos you have to share (that would be FAR OUT and GROOVY!) A nursery will be provided, so come and have some fun with us!
Organization can be overwhelming and daunting, so take it one step at a time. Ann will teach you why you want to be organized, how you can get organized, and ideas on what items you can use for your home. Not just any bin will do, but what kind of bin or basket will work for you in your home. And, if you have a fabulous idea that you use to help you stay organized, please share with the rest of us on Tuesday night. A nursery will be provided, so no excuses! Come join us and Get Organized! You can also check out Ann's blog for additional ideas, go here to see it!
“I want to tell you something that I hope you will take in the right way:God is fully aware that you and I aren’t perfect….everyone has strengths and weaknesses…be thankful for all the small successes in your home, your family relationships, your education and livelihood, your Church participation and personal improvement…our journey toward perfection is long, but we can find wonder and delight in even the tiniest steps in that journey.”
2. Forget not the differences between good & foolish sacrifices.
“An acceptable sacrifice is when we give up something good for something of far greater worth… every person and situation is different, and a good sacrifice in one instance might be a foolish sacrifice in another…We can ask ourselves, “Am I committing my time and energies to the things that matter most?”There are so many good things to do, but we can’t do all of them.”
3. Forget not to be happy NOW.
“So many people today are waiting for their own golden ticket – the ticket that they believe holds the key to the happiness they have always dreamed about…There is nothing wrong with righteous yearnings – we hope and seek after things that are “virtuous, lovely, of good report or praiseworthy.”The problem comes when we put our happiness on hold as we wait for some future event – our golden ticket – to appear…Never stop striving for the best that is within you.Never stop hoping for all the righteous desires of your heart. But don’t close your eyes to the simple and elegant beauties of each day’s ordinary moments that make up a rich, well-lived life.”
4. Forget not the "why" of the gospel.
“My dear sisters, the gospel of Jesus Christ is not an obligation; it is a pathway…. Leading to happiness and peace in this life and glory and inexpressible fulfillment in the life to come… When we understand why our Heavenly Father has given us this pattern for living … why we committed to making it a foundational part of our lives, [it] ceases to become a burden and, instead becomes a joy and delight… The “what” and “how” of obedience mark the way and keep us on the right path. The “Why” of obedience sanctifies our actions, transforming the mundane into the majestic. It magnifies our small acts of obedience into holy acts of consecration.”
5. Forget not that the Lord loves you.
“Sisters, wherever you are, whatever your circumstances, you are not forgotten. No matter how dark your days may seem, no matter how insignificant you may feel, no matter how overshadowed you think you may be, your Heavenly Father has not forgotten you.In fact, He loves you with an infinite love…God loves you because you are His child. He loves you even though at times you may feel lonely or make mistakes. The love of God and the power of the restored gospel are redemptive and saving … you are closer to heaven than you suppose.”
